Course examines the major philosophical approaches to art, both Continental and Analytic, focusing mainly on the 20th century. Topics studied include beauty, the sublime, mimesis, the nature of art, the end of art, the ontology of art, the meaning of art, art and truth, high and low art, committed versus autonomous art, fascism and art, art and value, art and mass media.
