Description: |
This course serves our majors and minors as an introduction to the study of German literature, and as a survey of German literary history. Beginning with the Baroque period, the semester begins with an introduction to reading and analyzing poetry, and we will examine a series of poems formally, in their epochal contexts. The second half of the semester concerns the study of traditional and modern Drama, focusing on J.W. Goethe's Faust and B. Brecht's Die Dreigroschenoper. Language of instruction: German. Course fulfills major and minor German core requirement. Students will have completed GRMN 200 or an equivalent course prior to enrolling. |
