Second semester of a three-course sequence for students planning to major in physics, other physical sciences and engineering. Coulomb's Law through Maxwell's equations; electrostatics, electrical potential; capacitors; electric fields in matter; current and circuits; magnetostatics; magnetic fields in matter; induction, A.C. circuits; electromagnetic waves.In addition to four 3-hour lectures, one three-hour laboratory every week and one two-hour workshop per week is required. Laboratory and workshop registration is done at the time of the course registration. Students should register for the PHYS 082 lab.
For SUMMER - Lecture will be Online, while Lab will be In-person.
U of R Students - You have the choice to take the in-person lab component (PHYS 082) in the summer semester or the next fall semester. You need to register for the lab component either way.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: PHY 099 (formerly PHY 101); and PHY 113 or 121; and MTH 143 or MTH 162. EAS 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 or 108 can be accepted in place of PHY 099. (MTH 162 may be taken concurrently).
Laboratory and workshop registration is done at the time of the course registration. Students should register for the PHYS 082 lab. This course is offered in both the Spring, Summer Session II (B-6).
